Singles’ Conference 2014 – the report

15th February 2014

We thank God almighty for the success of the second singles’ conference, which took place at our Birmingham Branch.  Singles from all our different branches came together.  Some came from as far as Aberdeen, some from Manchester, London and Birmingham. We had in attendance a total of about 45 singles present as well as their branch ministers.

The main aim of the conference was for the spinsters and bachelors to talk about current issues facing us and to share with each other strategies in overcoming the various challenges that they are facing. Also the church’s aim is to encourage the singles, and to let us know that church is praying for us and also the processes that the ministries goes through with those who are engaged to be married.

The day started with an introduction from Rev Adigun, he outlined the structure of the day.  The singles were then asked to introduce themselves to at least two people that they have not met.  (They were asked to find out one important thing about this individual).

We watched two short clips; the first was titled “Don’t waste your Singleness” this focused on encourage the single, to make good use of this time to be all they can be for God. They should put His service as a major priority, until the time when God will provide for us the bone of our bones.

The second clip was called “Pursue Her”, the clip sharing some important insight on how single men should seek Godly advice on their pursuit for a wife.  The single ladies too, where advised that they too should keep their hearts and let God be the guide, and trust him to chose and lead them in the right way.

We were split into two groups to discuss our thoughts on the clips, as well as points that were written down.  The discussion sessions were great, God blessed, and it was wonderful to have singles being open and sharing their experiences, their highs and lows; sharing how God has been and is still keeping them.

Before lunch the two groups shared the important points that they gained from their group discussion

Lunch was provided by our brethren in Birmingham, May God Bless them all.

After lunch, Brother Isaac shared with the group some useful hints and information, for couples intending to marry.

Some of the points are as follows.

  1. Finance
  2. Children/Family Planning
  3. Preparation for the unexpected
  4. Culture clashes
  5. Dealing with in-laws
  6. Understanding a man
  7. Understanding a woman

Brother Isaac continued to open a time for question and answer, due to time constraints we could not go through every item. We pray for another opportunity like this to continue this discussion.

We thank God almighty for the success of this day.  It is our prayer that God will keep all our Spinsters and Bachelors, until that appointed time. We pray that God will help them to rely on Him and that they all will wait for His leading and listen when he speaks.

Whose side are You on?

At about midday on Saturday the 1st of February 2014, Delta Force Paintballing Centre saw about 30 young people from the AFM London attend the postponed January Youth Monthly Event Programme.

The team waded through the mud as we had fun and also got inspired through the game of Paintball. It was indeed an experience and even more when we discussed lessons learnt over lunch of Pizza. The lessons were numerous: lack of preparation, being team mates, keeping up spiritually no matter how hard it may be. We can see even more from the short stories that evolved, one of which can be found here. We look forward to a more exciting time with believers as well as with God as we grow spiritually in 2014.

Paintballing painted my life

The wintry shivers went down my spine as my plimsolls covered feet trudged excitedly in the mud.

All excitement wore off when deep in the mud, I plunged, struggled to stand, slipped and finally fell.

However the excitement steamed up like water at it’s boiling point. Blood pumped through my veins to my head and my hands on fire to shoot. Just when I thought I had a good aim, I was knocked down by a fellow team mate. Down in the mud, I laid, funny it seemed but not to me. I was breathless after couple of runs and finally the game was up.

It was another struggle to get out of the zone with so much mud in my feet. I was excited to get a breather, my helmet was so unclear due to my breath, however, I was sad to leave the game.

Then it popped in my head, do many lessons, I couldn’t share just talking to friends. My fingers had to do the talking here and I am sure you would learn some more from this.

The Excitement

The excitement can relate to how we get excited spiritually. At the point of salvation our blood is pumping and we just want to get out and tell it to everyone yet we are not fully grounded and unprepared.

In another sense, we can get excited when we see people in sin, we think the grass is greener on the other side, we think it’s fun till we get out there deep into sin and in the mud. We are unprepared for what the devil throws at us and in that instant, we get more and more in trouble with God. Salvation then seems like a gold-mine only achievable by the spiritually rich.

The Mud

It started shallow as we waded through it, still we were determined to get through with the excitement steaming in us. We didn’t care at that point, but it got deeper and more difficult to tramp. That did not cease the game.

Do I hear DETERMINATION screaming at me?

I heard my inner me saying “Ignore your muddy shoes, just go for it and have fun. You can do it!

I want you to say it to you “I can do it!” No matter that difficult task, keep pushing through and you’ll make it because God said: YOU are going to make it!

You may have walked in the shallow areas of sin and now you ate down there in Satan’s grip. I say to you “Look to Jesus Christdon’t stop firing that gun of prayer, keep at it, salvation is on its way. Don’t go deeper in sin, you can still find your path back to Christ even in the mud because you really don’t have to walk back that way, all you just do is CALL for help and he will come to you.

Are you that Christian, got saved or sanctified or filled with the Holy Ghost but you are still a babe in Christ?
It will surely get deeper and difficult but let me get you excited and with this mindset, strive to GROW in GRACE:
The goal is HEAVEN, your reward is up there. You don’t deserve a life of torment in hell. YOU can make IT!

Don’t give up even when life throws more dirt at you and when it may become cloudy, so unclear just like my helmet. Even when you fall like I did, pushed in the mud of life with the words of Christian brothers or sisters (our team mates), don’t despair. Don’t relax in the mud, don’t quit like I did in the game of paintballing. Get back up and fight harder. Keep firing on as a Christian soldier.

Youth Camp 2013

The 2013 Youth Camp tagged U.S.B which took place at the Pioneer Christian Centre, Kidderminster was a very exciting time for all the delegates who came from all over the UK, Nigeria and Chicago. As delegates arrived the centre on Friday 3rd May, they were asked to guess what they thought U.S.B. means. Responses ranged from “Unprecedented Salvation Box” to “Unsaved Sinners Believe”, “Unveiling Sin’s Bondage” among others. As many of the delegates wondered what U.S.B. meant, the Youth Camp delegates’ pack which had the meaning of U.S.B. on it was handed out: Undoing Spiritual Bondage! – U.S.B.

Saturday’s session began with a review of the specially designed Youth camp devotional which centred around the U.S.B.theme. The need to ensure that our walk with God is consistent was stressed as the example was present about the children of Israel, who instead of the 11 days spent 40 years in the wilderness before they got to the promised land. Clips of celebrities who had various bondages in their lives were also to give a vivid picture of how spiritual bondages start very small and then blow up into being addictions. Other activities included creative sessions where the delegates had to express using pictures what bondage means. There were also short plays by the various groups which the delegates were split into. The sports session also emphasised the need for physical work-out while reiterating that being spiritually free means: first accepting you are in need of help.

Yes! London needs Rejuvenation

We love London. It our pride, our home. It is full of heritage, culture, the old and the new, diversity, intelligence, stunning architecture and individuality. But it lacks one major factor, spiritual revival.

But from the gated communities of Belgravia, North of the Thames to the council estates of Woolwich, there are thousands of hurt minds, emotionally low people, frustrated individuals, lonely people, lost souls.

Our London need a spiritual and emotional rejuvenation. London needs richness, spiritual richness. London needs a revival. Imagine walking down the street and saying God Bless You to everyone without anyone turning an eye in bewilderment? Imagine everyone smiling from the inside? Imagine being able to open your door freely without the thought of theft?

How could a beautiful city lack its very heart and soul? Look at all those beautiful churches, everywhere. Some, half full. Yet, nightclubs and bars are over reaming with people, seeking things which give temporary happiness. Our churches offer more than happiness, but everlasting joy and teach salvation which gives eternal peace!

We all need to pray for hearts in London to be open to hear the Gospel this year. All evangelism (which is an overflow for our love for Jesus Christ) will be effective, winning some, if not all souls. Yours and my prayer can pass through boroughs to postcodes, underground to overground, down the escalators to bus 453, the shard to community centres, LSE to London School of theology, MacDonalds to Nandoes to Claridges, HSBC to Coutts, glass doors to ceilings. It equips those already lighting their corner and it prepares hearts to open God’s loving voice.

Lets see that December 2013, God willing, London is experiencing sustained revival.

I’m part of the fellowship of the unashamed

“A note found written in the office of a young pastor in Zimbabwe, Africa, following his martyrdom for his faith in Jesus Christ. I quote his letter verbatim: I’m part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have the Holy Spirit’s power. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has beenmade—I’m a disciple of his. I won’t look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, my future issecure. I’m finished and done with low living, sight walking, smooth knees, colourless dreams, tamed visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals.I no longer need pre-eminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don’t have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean in his presence, walk by patience, am uplifted by prayer, and I labour with power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is heaven,my road is narrow, my way rough, my companions are few, my Guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, turned back, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the enemy, pander at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won’t give up, shut up, let up, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, preached up for the cause of Christ. I am a disciple of Jesus. I must go till he comes, give till I drop, preach till all know, and work till he stops me. And, when he comes for his own, he will have no problem recognizing me. . .my banner will be clear.“- Book of the signature of Christ
